Established in terms of Sri Lanka Sustainable Development Act, No. 19 of 2017, the Sustainable Development Council is the nodal government institution with responsibilities for coordination, facilitation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on the implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Sri Lanka.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Communication Platform was developed to empower Sri Lanka’s Sustainable Development Council (SDC) in tracking, evaluating, and reporting progress toward the SDGs. With data flowing in from over 100+ government agencies, the platform ensures structured, transparent, and reliable monitoring of national sustainability progress.
It combines a public-facing portal for awareness and transparency with a secure data management system that standardizes data collection, verification, and reporting workflows across agencies—strengthening Sri Lanka’s ability to advance its sustainable development agenda.

1.Target & Indicator Management
SDC administrators can define national targets, indicators, sub-indicators, and disaggregation levels aligned with SDG frameworks.
2.Agency Onboarding & Role Assignment
Agencies onboarded with designated focal points to manage data workflows, ensuring responsibility and accountability.
3.Indicator Assignment to Agencies
Agencies mapped to relevant indicators, clarifying reporting responsibilities across the 100+ institutions.
4.Configurable Data Workflows
For each indicator, SDC defines the data format and workflow roles (Uploader, Reviewer, Publisher), ensuring a standardized and auditable process.
5.Multi-Level Data Management
- Uploaders from agencies submit data.
- Reviewers validate, reject, or approve submissions.
- Publishers finalize approved datasets.
6.Public-Facing Portal
Published datasets are accessible through a web portal with dashboards, visualizations, and progress summaries for the public and policymakers.
6.REST API Integration
Approved datasets are made available via secure APIs, ensuring reusability across external platforms and data portals.
