Improving the lives of marginalized and vulnerable community members.
Samata Sarana is a non-profit organization based in Mutwal, Colombo, Sri Lanka, founded in 1988 by Rev. Sister Bernie Silva and guided by Father Joe de Mel. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of marginalized and vulnerable community members. Through its programs in education, healthcare, nutrition, and compassionate care, Samata Sarana aims to restore dignity and provide hope.
Located strategically in Mutwal, Samata Sarana serves four slum communities: De La Salle Sea Beach, Bloemendhal Railway Line, Mosque Lane, and Kimbulawela. The organization addresses challenges such as overcrowding, insufficient infrastructure, and limited access to education and healthcare.
Samata Sarana’s ongoing programs include a Feeding Program providing regular meals, a Children’s Day Care for growth and development up to age 4, a Leadership Training Program for Girls, and Vocational Training to equip individuals with practical employment skills.
